School Resource Officers

 Capt. Paul B. Smith

Under the direct supervision of Captain Paul B. Smith, School Resource Officers are sworn law enforcement personnel who are responsible for ensuring safety and maintaining security of Holmes County Schools including faculty, staff, parents, visitors and most of all students.   These officers are employed by the Sheriff's Department and work closely with administrators in an effort to create a safer environment for both students and staff. The responsibilities of school resource officers are similar to regular police officers as they have the ability to make arrests, respond to calls for service, and document incidents that occur within their jurisdiction. In addition, these officers provide mentoring and may conduct presentations on youth-related issues.
